National Association of Social Workers
A membership organization of professional social workers offering career services, credentials, continuing education, practice guidance and ethical standards, with chapters across the United States.
The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world, with more than 120,000 members. Founded in 1955 through the merger of seven social work organizations, it is headquartered in Washington, D.C. and operates a network of chapters across the United States.
For working social workers, the association's offerings centre on career development and professional standing. These include a career center, continuing education opportunities, webinars for the social work and allied health community, and professional credentials and certifications. Practice guidance resources are provided to support day-to-day work in the field.
NASW also sets professional standards for the occupation. Its NASW Code of Ethics defines the values, principles and ethical standards that guide decision-making and professional conduct among social workers. Beyond individual practice, the association offers members opportunities for policy advocacy aimed at advancing sound social policies.
The organisation describes its purpose as advancing the social work profession and supporting members throughout their careers, with an emphasis on professional growth, ethical standards and lifelong career support. Its work spans the social work, allied health, professional association and nonprofit sectors.
