Times Higher Education

Times Higher Education provides university rankings, higher education data and analytics, journalism, events and professional services to universities, students and policymakers worldwide.

Times Higher Education (THE) is a data, media and events business serving the global higher education sector. Founded in 1971 as the Times Higher Education Supplement, it has spent more than five decades covering universities worldwide and now combines that editorial heritage with a large data operation. Its work spans data analytics, university performance assessment, ranking methodology, market research and journalism, with outputs aimed at universities, students, governments and corporate partners. The company's best-known products are its university rankings. The World University Rankings evaluate more than 2,200 research-intensive institutions, while a wider rankings portfolio assesses institutions with different missions. Beneath this sits a data business built on some 10 million datapoints covering more than 7,000 institutions across 171 countries, sold as data solutions and intelligence products. THE also runs agenda-setting events for the higher education community and provides professional services to universities, governments and corporate partners. THE is owned by Inflexion Private Equity, which acquired the business in 2019, and has since expanded through acquisitions including Inside Higher Ed, The Knowledge Partnership and BMI Global. Across its family of companies it reports more than 65 million annual visitors. The company describes its approach as data-driven and insight-led, pairing authoritative datasets with editorial expertise to inform decisions by institutions, students and policymakers.
