Global humanitarian organisation founded in 1919, delivering health, education and child protection programmes for children in over 100 countries.
Save the Children is a global humanitarian organisation founded in 1919 by Eglantyne Jebb. It was the first global movement to declare that children have rights; its declaration became the foundation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the most universally accepted human rights treaty in history. The organisation works in over 100 countries, delivering life-changing programmes in health, education and child protection, with a stated focus on the hardest-to-reach places where it is toughest to be a child. Its mission is to ensure every child can survive, learn and be protected from harm.
In 2024 the organisation reached 114 million children across 113 countries, and it advocates on behalf of 2.3 billion children worldwide. Its work is delivered through local programmes and partners. Health and nutrition services reached 28.9 million children in 2024, education programmes supported 7.5 million children to access education in hard-to-reach places, and child protection programmes reached 2.9 million children.
Save the Children reports that 84% of every dollar donated goes directly to its mission. Its work spans humanitarian aid, international development, child welfare, education, health and nutrition, and child protection. Further information is available at https://savethechildren.org/.
