Canadian Federation of Independent Business
A non-profit founded in 1971, CFIB represents more than 103,000 Canadian small and medium-sized business owners through advocacy, advisory services and member programmes.
The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) is a non-profit organisation founded in 1971 that represents small and medium-sized businesses across Canada. Its membership exceeds 103,000 independent business owners, and it advocates on their behalf at federal, provincial, territorial and municipal levels of government. Policy positions are set directly by member business owners rather than by executive leadership.
CFIB's advocacy work concentrates on reducing red tape, improving interprovincial trade and addressing taxation challenges affecting small firms. Alongside its government relations activity, the organisation provides member services including Business Barometer, an economic indicator measuring small business confidence across the country; HR Now!, a human resources guidance service; and a Member Savings Program offering savings of up to $5,000 a year on essential business services.
Members also have access to business resources and advisory services, with expert business advisors in every province, as well as HR tools, templates, training programmes and webinars on timely business topics. CFIB operates coast to coast, across all provinces and territories, and runs the Celebrate Small Business campaign in support of Canadian small businesses.
